Sepak Takraw Association of the East Coast Tournament
The tournament hosted by the Sepak Takraw Association of East Coast last weekend was a lot of fun! The tournament was held at Wat Lao Buddharam in Charlotte, North Carolina. There were teams from 8 different states, mostly from the East coast of the USA. Most of the Sepak Takraw players came from North Carolina. The others were from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia and California. The two day tournament made all of the Sepak Takraw fans happy to watch some excellent games. The final game on Sunday between California and North Calorina was the most exciting game for the fans because in the tiebreaker game, both teams were very competitive. In the end, California won over North Carolina by only 1 point! Thank you to all of the organizers of the tournament, organizers of the welcome party on Saturday night, and all the fans.
1st place - California Team
2nd place - North Carolina Team

To introduce Sepak Takraw as an official Olympic sport, ISTAF (International Sepak Takraw Federation) is trying hard to encourage more countries to play Sepak Takraw, including the USA. More than 30 countries play Sepak Takraw right now. Takraw USA is trying to encourage more people to play and learn about the sport in the USA. There are annual tournaments in the USA in July in Minnesota and during the fall in California.

In January, Tony, a Sacramento-based member of US SepakTakraw team, made a trip to Oakland, CA to meet with P.T., who plays Net Footbag there (see www.footbag.org ) In 2002 P.T. participated in a Sepak Takraw tournament in Oakland. Takraw players may be interested in playing Net Footbag because it is a similar sport to Sepak Takraw. In addition, some Footbag players may like to learn some spiking techniques that Takraw players use. It seems like a good idea for both Takraw and Footbag players to practice together in the future.
During the trip to Oakland, P.T. introduced Tony to a Takraw club in Oakland. Tony played Takraw with them and enjoyed meeting another active Takraw community in northern California. He and his friends will come back again to play Takraw with the Oakland Takraw club.Thank you again to P.T.!

There were 8 regus, or teams, competed in the games, hailing from all over Northern California.
